Teddython HOT 102.7FM
I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to Ben, a young man who has been helped by Ecomed’s generosity and to share how your support has made a significant difference in his life during an incredibly challenging time.
ā
Earlier this year, Ben faced an unexpected health crisis when he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his small intestine. Complications quickly followed, requiring emergency surgery and post-operative care. Due to issues with his medical aid, he was transferred to Steve Biko Hospital, where he underwent a critical operation to address the blockage.
Unfortunately, his journey became even more complex as he developed septicaemia shortly after his procedure at Steve Biko, which led to a life-threatening infection.
ā
After an additional surgery at a private hospital and a challenging two weeks in the ICU, Ben’s resilience brought him through, but he now faces an incisional hernia requiring further surgery as well as mounting medical bills not be covered by his medical aid. The strain of these medical and financial hurdles has been substantial, impacting Ben and his family emotionally, physically, and financially.
ā
Recognising the critical nature of his circumstances, Hot Cares directed Ecomed’s support to help Ben by covering the excess owing amount at Life Wilgers Hospital for his second surgery which came to R88,378.00.
Your contribution has provided Ben and his family with relief and a sense of hope amid these challenges. Thank you for your trust in us and for making this vital assistance possible. Your kindness and support have had a profound impact on Ben’s life, and we are deeply grateful.
A Flight to Aunt Nonnie
Miané Pretorius was born at 39 weeks on 7 June 2017 as a healthy baby weighing 2.8 kg. She was never sick, a normal child and her vaccination appointments and check-ups at the pediatrician never showed anything abnormal in her health. In January 2023 she displays very yellow, remains very tired and gets a very high fever every afternoon at the same time.
ā
She is admitted to the South African Hospital for antibiotics treatment, and to do a liver biopsy, gastroscopy and colonoscopy. All the medical team could note was that there was inflammation and small potatoes in her colon and liver that were displaying like "spiders". Miané is diagnosed with an immune disease that is not only incurable, but that has had an effect on her liver.
ā
This diagnosis, during which her liver systematically hardens, is known as liver cirrhosis. Miané's parents are at a crossroads with the fact that the immune disease is affecting the liver, and the option for a liver transplant is being sabotaged by the immune disease.
ā
Unfortunately, the Pretorius family can now only go on with the medication she is currently taking in order to stabilize and ease her quality of life. Miané, her Mother Allison, Father Johan and Brother Handré came to visit GROOTfm 90.5
ā
A BIG THANK YOU to Jenny's Travel , Ecomed Medical and Caring Daisies who helped this dream of Miané come true. Beloved Miané, enjoy your visit with Aunt Nonnie!

Silverfields Veterinary Clinic
Lebo, a cherished colleague at Silverfields Veterinary Clinic for a decade, is renowned in the community as the "dog whisperer" and "cat charmer." Sadly, he's currently grappling with a severe leg bone infection, causing excruciating pain and impairing his ability to fulfil his duties as a kennel assistant effectively.
As a kennel assistant, Lebo's livelihood is directly affected. The persistent pain compromises his capacity to work and provide for himself and his family. He urgently needs surgery to clean out the infection as it is in the actual bone and can't drain by itself.
Lebo has been through the government hospitals but has been moved from pillar to post and advised of their lengthy waiting periods. The surgery he urgently requires comes with a staggering cost of up to R100,000.
Time is of the essence, and without timely intervention, Lebo's health and livelihood hang in the balance.

Chesed Jamu
Chesed Jamu was diagnosed last year in January when he was almost 3 years old with neuroblastoma. Chased was in ICU when he started chemotherapy which was done for 6 months until August last year.
ā
Around June 2022 they did surgery to remove the tumor which was not a success because the tumor had grown around the main blood vessels in the abdomen.
ā
From there we then proceeded to do radiation the whole month of October and part of November. Early December on check up the doctor said the cancer had moved to his neck so we started Chemotherapy to keep it at bay.
ā
At that time his left leg was now very painful so the doctors gave him morphine. We went back last week Thursday for check up that's when he had to go on oxygen and received blood as his hemoglobin was very low. That was when we were told no treatment will continued as his bone marrow has crashed and therefore we need to go home and care for him there with painkillers.
ā
Thank you for helping supply oxygen to the 4 year old child and loaning him a machine.
Ecomed and staff rock.

Single mother Noku
Single mother Noku really has been through the ringer, and it’s stories like hers that really pull at the heartstrings.
Losing two siblings in the space of a couple of weeks and being handed the responsibility of looking after their children, as well as her own, and all of this after spending the last year in chronic pain, after being injured at work.
Hot Cares just had to make a difference to her life this Christmas.

ā
Nazareth House gives everyone in its care the best possible care they need regardless of age, background, or circumstances.
ā
We hope the two oxygen concentrators can assist many lives that pass through your doors.
Liezel Meyer
Today we visited our Ecomed Medical Charista Chaz Grobler family,
We would NOT have come this far, if it weren't for you amazing people who have become such an Integral part of our lives, especially our girl's lives, and we are sooo extremely thankful to have you part of our journey!!!!!!!
Thank you for always making sure our girls are sorted and for being there for them at a moment's notice!!!!! We really do not see you as strangers or just an oxygen company, you truly are our family!!!
ā
Our girls saw "outside" for the very first time ever, and they couldn't stop staring at the trees outside Ecomed, and just basking in the awesomeness of the wonderous creation of God's own special handy work.
Was such a HUGE reminder that we should all just stop and smell the roses, the nature, the fresh air, it was just so gobsmacking to witness how they were just in absolute awe!!!
Katrien and Rudi
The title of Katrien's cry for help was: 'No money just an ENGINE for our Bakkie'. Katrien and Rudi are in a deep hole.
Last year, while visiting Rudi's mother in Vanderbijlpark, a large part of their income fell away when the engine of their vehicle broke. Rudi not only did garbage removal for their own bread and butter, but also for a man who lives on the street for whom you could offer a job.
Rudi started this job when he was laid off in February last year due to Covid 19. After sending out a multitude of CVs to get Rudi a new job, and no response, they sit with their hands in their hair, with worries, but also with hope. It's little, but it's there!
Yes, sometimes it is easy to say that someone should make a plan and be proactive. But sometimes, someone just needs a push of HOPE, a starting point to a next chapter.

Anna's Portable Oxygen Concentrator

We are hoping this alleviates the stress and gives Anna peace of mind during load shedding.
The Love of Christ
TLC, 'The Love of Christ', is a children's home that was founded 30 years ago by a family, and has found families for more than 900 children during these 30 years.
Their starting point is 'we love, to let go', which in itself drives their team to get a baby placed with a family as soon as possible.
One of their big wishes is to put up a sign outside the gate that reads: 'The happiest place on earth'. And, that's exactly what our experience was with our visit.
What makes them different? There are so many elements! They not only take in babies, but sometimes also their mothers - to whom they then give the facilities to 'foster' their own child, as they refer to it. TLC's staff refer from early on, and acknowledge the children's 'tummy mummy' and explain to the children why they cannot live permanently with their 'tummy mummies'.

Mari en Drikus van der Merwe
Morning Ecomed,
ā
Where will I start, not words to say thank you enough.
ā
The news about Amanda hit us hard but didn't ask us for a moment why and why.
We just asked God to help and guide us so we could make it as easy as possible for her.
We didn't even know where to start and immediately within a week God had already sent us help by putting people like Storm and Ansie on our path.
ā
The word thank you is so small but means so much. We can only be forever grateful to Storm and Ansie and everyone involved with the help of the oximeter.
ā
We as a family sincerely care about this and know that Amanda is just as grateful for the Oximeter that helps her so much with breathing.
ā
From our hearts THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH THE LORD SEES YOU FOR THE GOOD WORK YOU ARE DOING.
ā
From the Le Roux Family
Mari en Drikus van der Merwe
Mari and Drikus got an opportunity to live in a 3x6m 'Wendy house' near Drikus' brother. Here they will once again be surrounded by family and the necessary support for that #HOOPStoot for which they have been praying for so long.

Roney Stephens
Cindy and Rodney Stephens have sent a request to us regarding their 2-year-old daughter, Roney's little feet. She has been for treatment at state hospitals, but experiences the experience every time as extremely traumatic.
Cindy does not currently have a job and her husband does 'casual jobs'. She is currently trying to generate an income by buying and selling second-hand clothes.
The financial implication of such an operation is hundreds-thousands of rands.

For Ronan to be able to go home, he requires an oxygen concentrator to sustain his oxygen levels.

Elke was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis in 2014. The doctors took her out of school as she had to be on oxygen 24/7.
Elke was gifted with a home oxygen concentrator but that meant she had to be home and could not enjoy her normal activities like going to school, attending the church services or even going into town with her family.
ā
Ecomed donated a portable oxygen concentrator to Elke so she can start to enjoy her activities and live life to the fullest.

Noah Buys
Good afternoon Greg & Sonja,
My name is Tanya, I am Noah's mom.
Firstly I want to thank you for your contribution towards his grommet surgery, I pray that you will be blessed in overflow.
His surgery went very well, the doctors are very happy and he started talking a little bit again.
Noah is such a strong little man, when we got home on Saturday after the surgery, he carried on as if he never even went for surgery that morning.
Once again, thank you so very much for helping him we are truly blessed with good hearted people like you.
Sarel Cilliers High school
Thank you so much for the kind donation of cylinders and nebulizers for the High School and Hostel.
They have had a few incidences of severe asthma attacks and they are 20 km’s from the nearest hospital so this will be a life saver for them.
The new Head Boy (far left) is a chronic asthmatic but still plays rugby and does wrestling so will become a peer educator for his fellow pupils as well.
Caressa Home Nursing

Michel Goosen
Christmas came early this year for my dear dad who was blessed with the gift of life today! Friday 30 October marks the day on which we met angels on earth – Juanita Saaiman, Alma Basson and the rest of the exceptionally professional team from Ecomed in Krugersdorp.
We simply cannot thank you enough for reaching out to us and offering my dad (who only has one functional lung) a lifetime sponsorship for an oxygen machine.
You’ve not only inspired him, but also the rest of our family, to keep having faith and to live and breathe the truth that kindness and love will always win!
Belinda Berry
Belinda, who was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, is a single mother of 3 and is only receiving a small disability grant. Belinda only has a standard oxygen concentrator at home that she is connected to 24/7 which her medical aid does pay for but they will not pay for a additional portable unit. Belinda bought a small cylinder but its quite heavy to carry around.
ā
Ecomed decided to step in, donating a new portable oxygen concentrator so Belinda may have her freedom again.
Pretoria West Hospital
On Friday the 16th of October, Ecomed Medical was invited to participate in the Pretoria West Hospital Trauma Day.

Simon Makgobela
After years of dreaming to participate at the Paralympics as a cyclist, Simon Makgobela from Munsieville has now decided to take up tennis to reach his dream.
ā
After reading about Simon in the News in 2019, Greg de Freitas, the director of Ecomed Medical decided he wanted to help.
Simon told him about the train accident in which he lost his legs at the age of 16 and how important cycling was to him. He was struggling to provide for his wife and four kids, and make enough money to compete in cycling races. He had to depend on donations which he mostly received by standing on street corners.
ā
Greg said he was amazed by Simon’s courage and attitude, and he wanted to help Simon to have the same opportunities as any able-bodied person. He did not want Simon to worry about providing for his family – he wanted him to focus only on his dream, so he has been helping the family out with R10 000 per month to survive.
Simon also mentioned to Greg that he would like to start playing tennis, and with the help of a few well-placed connections Simon started taking tennis lessons.
Simon explained he tried to be the best in cycling as he wanted to have a way to support his family, but getting sponsorship was difficult. He now only cycles for fun and exercise.
ā
“Maybe tennis can take me far and one day I will be able to afford a nice home for my children to stay in,” Simon said.
He added that he would like to thank Greg who helped him a lot. He wants to make Greg happy and proud. His dream is still to go to the Paralympics but this time it won’t be in a cycling chair, but in a specialized tennis chair.

Annette Claassen
It is with great gratitude that we as a family today would like to thank Ecomed for donating Annette Claassen's wheelchair.
ā
Annette was in the Intensive Care Unit of Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for a month with heart problems where we lost her almost 3 times, she was connected to Ventilator and recovered remarkably from it but has now lost the feeling in her legs, Doctors are doing tests and they found out that there was a tumor on Annette's spine, a biopsy would be done to see if that could be the cause.
We would like to thank Mr Greg De Freitas very much for the donation, and through that Annette can now move around with ease, even to the good samaritans Michelle Laufs and Sonja Nel without you it would not have been possible Goodman thank you very much for your sacrifice and time you took to unload the wheelchair for her It's so good to know that there are more Angels coming your way.
Well done Ecomed team.

Little Alestiano Korkee was constantly connected to an oxygen machine due to a lung condition. The distance he could move away from the house was determined by the length of the supply pipe connected to the machine in the house.
